Hey! How do you set your goals?
When I started writing Significatorius, I said I was aiming for something lighter set in the world of Besnowed.
After finishing the first rough draft, I felt like I’d more or less achieved that.
I have, however, somewhat surprised myself with how much I’m rewriting as I work through the later portions of the story.
I think it’s a lot better for it, but that has meant everything takes a little longer. In the past, I believe I’ve erred on the side of rushing through the process. The excitement of nearing the end can sometimes bury delicate plot lines.
Having said that, I can now vividly see the finish line!
So, I’ll keep it simple.
I liked the map from last week. I’ll try doing that again.
Along The Water
This is a rough outline of the core setting.
I hesitated to zoom in closer. It felt like getting too close made it harder to blur the lines between the real world Ushuaia and the Oshovia I’ve invented.
Maybe next week, if I manage to work up the courage!
I do like how this map accentuates the feeling of traveling up and down the channel — or the canal. In the history of the region, travel by water has been important.
That’s often reflected in the names — perhaps easiest to see for some in how many of them are reflections of the age of discovery.
Although I think these days most locals travel by car — if not by plane — than by boat.
But where’s the romance in that?
Foolish Love
I’ll keep my head down for now.
I believe I’ll be done with that second rough draft in few more good days. That means I’m not going to write a piece of flash fiction this week either.
A few of you have already reached out about reading or editing, and I’ll be sure to properly respond once I’m comfortably done.
It’s an open invitation though — just send me a message if you’d like to be on the list!
Until next time.
